Description:
Medium sized, mainly glossy black bird, long tail deeply forked, outer pair of rectrices curving slightly outwards. Adult has glossy blue-black underparts and white rictal spot. Immature has black underparts with bold whitish fringes. From Ashy Drongo, by blacker upperparts and shiny blue-black throat and breast and eye is duller.
Distribution:
Locally uncommon summer visitor to the western parts of Ghizer and Diamer districts. Mostly in open country and farmland with scattered trees; common near villages and suburbs and openly wooded hills up to 2600 m.
Behavior:
Forages mainly in morning and evening hours, hunting insects attracted by electric lights as late as 2-4 hours after sunset. Perches on wires, fence posts, posts, bare treetops, earth banks or other vantage, sallying to catch prey on the wing. Food predominantly insects (often agricultural pests), including locusts, grasshoppers and crickets, beetles, bugs, termites, ants and bees.
